Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Handan İnci described the life and literary identity of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar for the Turkish Literature Summer School participants in a lecture entitled “An Intellectual Without Peace: Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar.”
İnci pointed out that Tanpınar had eight stories collected in a book. “In his story entitled ‘Dreams of Abdullah Efendi,’ Tanpınar employs a surrealist perspective ahead of his time, considering our literature in the 1930s,” she said.
İnci emphasized that Tanpınar had always been in search for truth. “Tanpınar was a writer who always searched and questioned. He is not didactic, but he makes readers ask questions and become aware of new things,” she said.
